In a large part of the country, the corona epidemic has subsided to the baseline level, which enables e.g. the implementation of the NUTS Karhunkierros with special arrangements, and the trail running season is kicking off.
However, in Southern Finland, the epidemic is still in the spreading stage, with respective restrictions are in. Organizing public events for more than six people is prohibited until the end of May, and there is no information yet about the restrictions in June. Organizing Bodom Trail is possible only when there restriction on public events are eased.
Based on recent developments in infection rates, this is still possible, so we have not yet given up. We hope that the authorities will ease the restrictions quickly when the disease situation allows.
Last minute decision on possible postponing
We will have to wait until the end of May for information on the restrictions at the beginning of June. Hopefully at that stage it’s clear whether it is possible to organize the Bodom Trail on June 11-12.
We will only make the decision to postpone the competition until the fall when it is absolutely certain that it cannot be held in June. At worst, this can mean a transfer with only a few days notice. This, of course, would be extremely annoying for both runners and organizers, so hopefully we won’t get into that situation.
So far we are preparing for the race, assuming that the restrictions will ease in time. However, even in the best of circumstances, caution is still required in June. Therefore, activities where close contacts are difficult to avoid are eliminated from the event.
This means that certain standard participant services will not be available, which affects the participant experience. We apologize for this in advance.
For example, showers or changing facilities are not available. We will also skip the charter bus rides this time. Bus tickets included in registrations postponed from last year will be refunded to participants upon request. We will send separate instructions about this if the race can be held in June.
Join as volunteer!
Due to the uncertainty of the situation, we have so far waited before actively recruiting volunteers. Now it must begin to ensure enough staff to organize the race in June. If you’re not coming to race yourself, how about enabling others to run?
We understand that signing up as a volunteer is questionable when situation of the whole event is unclear. Note that registration as a volunteer for the June event does not require you to join if the date changes.
As for Corona, the duties of a volunteer are safe. All tasks take place outdoors, and keeping safety distances is mostly very easy. In roles, which have the possibility of close contacts, we are using masks that are provided by the event.
The volunteer package includes a Salomon Golden Trail shirt, Trail Tour Finland 2021 Buff scarf, food of the race day, a possibility to sign up for free for the 2022 run and, as soon as corona restrictions allow, a get-together and dinner for volunteers.
Reserve date
If the event can’t be arranged in June, we will postpone it to the previously announced reserve weekend on October 15-16, and all registrations will be postponed to October. The entries can also be moved to spring 2022 or, due to this exceptional situation, canceled completely. In the event of cancellation, we will refund the participation fee less handling costs of EUR 6.
In the October option, the Bodom Team will run on Friday 15.10. in the afternoon and Bodom Night on Friday 15.10. in the evening. Bodom Trail 12/21 will run on Saturday 16.10.
However, if we have to postpone the event, we intend to mark the race route on the terrain during the original June date for untimed, non-organized running.
Here’s a status report now. We will let you know more as soon as we know ourselves. Keep safety distance, sneeze to the sleeve, and stay healthy! Summer is coming, trails are calling, and at some point we return to normal activities. How great it may feel!
